Peterborough, NH β In late August, at Ellacoya State Park in Gilford, NH, 1,862 athletes competed in the 9th annual Timberman Half Ironman 70.3 Triathlon. Local participants included Dr. Shawn Harrington, Dr. Ronald Michalak, Dr. Gregory Neilley, Shad Hansen, and Rob Finlay. The Timberman Ironman 70.3 is a qualifying race for the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater, Florida. The fresh water swim is a GPS-measured 1.2 miles in Lake Winnipesaukee. The 56 mile bike ride boasts several challenging hills ranging from 3% to 9% grade, including the difficult Marsh Hill Monstah. The race ends with a 13.1 mile scenic run along the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee.
The group of five joined together to tackle the event in December of 2008 and have been training and participating in other races for months in preparation for this event. On July 26, Drs. Harrington and Neilly completed the Nautica New York City Triathlon, an Olympic distance 1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run.
I'm very proud of everyone for having the fortitude to endure the months of training leading up to the Timberman,β said Dr. Shawn Harrington of Monadnock Orthopaedic Associates. βIt's hard to stay focused for eight months, and lead busy lives as well. The entire team completed the race, and it was exhilarating to say the least.β
